Video: Skyport Magic Mile Press Conference

Organisers of the Skyport Magic Mile say they are “on track” to set a new entry record for the annual junior race.
As of yesterday, 525 participants had registered for the iconic race, with the organisers remaining confident of beating their previous best number of 1008 with four days to go before the race gets underway on Saturday at 12 noon.
Wayne Raynor, the Bermuda Pacers Track Club president and co-race director, told a press conference yesterday: “We’re trying to hit our target of 1,009 participants and supersede our previous highest number of 1,008.”
The event, now in its 26th renewal, will feature a Kids’ Fun Zone at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
Among those competing on Saturday will be Pacers’ distance runner Amaris Munya, who told the press conference: “This will be my tenth year running the Skyport Magic Mile. I love running and travelling with my team Pacers. I encourage younger athletes to take part in the Skyport Magic Mile. It’s a fun event, and you really learn from it.”
Cal Simons, the Pacers head coach, said 100 and 200 metres races will also be held at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Saturday as part of Skyport Magic Mile for those athletes looking to qualify for the 50th Carifta Games in Nassau, Bahamas from April 7 to 10.
Nikki Fagan, head of brand development and communications at Skyport, said: “This event is not only a key race in Bermuda’s youth track circuit but also part of our future-focused mission, which includes a $3 million pledge to support Bermuda’s youth in sports, science and the performing arts over the next 20 years.
“At Skyport, we’re committed to supporting projects that make a difference in our community,” she said. “We have no doubt that Pacers will again make this year’s event one to remember.”
Participants can be registered online for the race, held on March 4, at racedayworld.com. Online entries close on March 3 [Friday] at 6 pm. Entry forms are available at Sportseller in Washington Mall and must be returned at the shop by March 1 [tomorrow]. There is no late entry on the day.
