Cruise Ship Diverts Due To Sick Passengers

On Tuesday [March 28], the cruise ship Ventura – which was traveling from the USA to Azores – diverted to Bermuda to disembark three passengers suffering from serious medical conditions.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Tuesday 28th March 2023, 12:05pm. RCC Bermuda received a satellite telephone call from the Bermuda Registered 116,017grt Cruise Ship Ventura, which was on passage from Port Canaveral, USA bound for Ponta Delgada in the Azores.

“The ship advised that two passengers where suffering from serious medical conditions and required urgent care ashore in a local hospital, the vessel made good speed to Bermuda and was scheduled to arrive offshore at the Sea Buoy by 6pm that evening, whereby transfer to the M&P Pilot/Rescue Boat St David, could be facilitated for the 87-year-old female and 70-year-old male passengers.

“As the vessel approached the East End it transpired that a further passenger onboard would need to be disembarked for medical care at KEMH, in total 3 patients where safely transferred ashore to Ordnance Island, and subsequently transported by ambulances to King Edward Memorial Hospital. The Ventura then continued on passage to the Azores.”
