Three students from Bermuda schools have received scholarships to travel and study in the south of France this summer.

The Alliance Français des Bermudes annual scholarship is open to students aged 14 to 16, with winners selected based on their writing and conservational skills in French.

This year’s awardees are Sienna Mnushkin [Saltus Grammar School], Cyannah Pereira [Berkeley Institute] and Nh’Lae De Rosa [Warwick Academy].

The students were recognised for their achievements at the Alliance Français’s annual dinner at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in Hamilton last week.

They will spend three weeks in a French-language school in Antibes, a coastal city, and experience French culture by visiting historical villages, learning to surf, enjoying the local cuisine and making new friends.

The $6,000 scholarships include travel costs, school fees and room and board.

Over the past 22 years, the Alliance Française, a registered charity supported by the Christian Humann Foundation, has offered travel and study scholarships to around 100 students from different schools and backgrounds in Bermuda.

Frederique Nappee, president of the Alliance Francais des Bermudes, said: “Students from previous years all returned with improved language skills and cultural knowledge. One of them called the experience a ‘once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity’.
