Bermudian Andreaz Glasgow was among 20 university scholars recognised at the Young Caribbean Professional Network’s [YCPN] Tenth Annual Scholarship and Awards Ceremony in Philadelphia last week.

The 20-year-old, a student at Long Island University, beat out competition from more than 100 applicants from universities along the East Coast of America to win a scholarship worth $2,500.

Mr Glasgow is studying for a double major in international relations and diplomacy and political science and a dual degree as part of a five-year pathway to obtain his master’s in business administration, specialising in management information studies.

“I applied for the scholarship, and about two weeks later, they responded to say I’d been successful – I was shocked!” Mr Glasgow told Bernews.

“It means a lot to me because I pay over $72,000 in school fees yearly. I have local scholarships in Bermuda, but I’m still in a deficit. It really helps with the financial burden of higher education.”

Mr Glasgow is a former Berkeley Institute student, where he was the head boy, student council president and house captain.

The YCPN, based in the New York tri-state area, is dedicated to creating access to education and economic opportunities for Caribbean and Latino students and young professionals in the global marketplace.
