Another Advisory Issued About Online Scam

April 2, 2023

Former Premier of Bermuda Dr Ewart Brown is advising the public to be “cautious and vigilant while online” of an advertisement bearing his likeness that he has “neither endorsed nor am in any way associated with.”

Former Premier Brown said, “Users of Facebook might have seen an advertisement bearing my likeness. I have neither endorsed nor am in any way associated with this or any online scam. This scam is the work of dishonest thieves who are capitalizing on my image and reputation to lead unsuspecting persons to the loss of their assets.”

“The fraudulent ad has been an ongoing issue: we have asked Facebook to take down the post, but there has been no movement in that direction.”

“I know nothing about this scam other than the fact that I have absolutely no connection with it. The public should be cautious and vigilant while online and know that I would never attempt to obtain money or confidential information from any member of the public.”

The online scam ads on social media are a pervasive issue, with multiple local politicians faces used, and some even use logos of local media. The ads, which are run on U.S. based social media networks, are scams, and the police and other entities have issued dozens of warnings about them.
