Photos: Video Game Design Challenge Held
Bermuda Island Games recently held their second annual Video Game Design Challenge and the theme this year was butterflies, with local butterfly specialist Ras Mykkal sharing his knowledge on the subject.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Island Games held their Video Game Design Challenge this year to see which group could come up with the best video game idea over the holiday break.
“The theme this year was butterflies, and they had local butterfly specialist Ras Mykkal to share his knowledge on the subject. Also, special guest speaker Harrison Pink, who is a senior video game quest designer, was able to join remotely to encourage the next generation of game designers.
“The event included gamers ranging in age from 7 to 45 who worked in teams to present their idea based on the theme. Each team learnt about what goes into building a video game, and how to apply it to their own idea, going from concept art to final and post-release.
“Some of the highlights from this year’s event included Gombeys, bus drivers, swizzle, and incorporating ChatGPT into the video game content.
“Judges from BEDC and Horizon had joined to determine who won the prizes from Bermuda 3D Printing, Red Laser and Gear and Gadget. Also, the grand prize, a new PlayStation 5 donated by Horizon Communications, was randomly selected by the winning group.
“3rd Place: Lost Monarch – Jakeem Edmead and Joaquin O’Connor.
“2nd Place: Bio-Butterfly Evolution – Evan Nappee, Jonathan Nappee, Alexander Posthumus and Kendra Chatterjee.
“1st Place: Flutter Bermuda – See-Hyoung Chang, Jordi Posthumus and Max Posthumus.
“Grand Prize: Max Kempe.
“Special thanks to sponsors BEDC, Bermuda Government – Economic Development Department, and John Barritt & Sons Ltd. for helping to make the event a success.”
