IDA Bermuda Players Impress In Orlando

Eleven players from IDA Bermuda have been making their mark with the New England Surf Select teams at the Easter International Cup in Orlando, Florida.
Midfielder Jack Fischer and forward Qash Lambert have been playing in the Under-14 Boys’ Blue Division, with Lambert scoring in his team’s 2-1 defeat to Jacksonville Football. He also netted in his side’s 2-2 draw against Florida Kraze Krush.
Their team will face Orlando City, an MLS Academy outfit, in the semi-finals.
In the Under-14 Girls’ White Division, Evans Welch, Kalila Daley, both wide players, and midfielder Amaya James have made significant contributions.
Isaac Todd and Zyndon Lightbourne Furbert have been impressing in the Boys’ Under-13 Blue Division, with Furbert scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Bavarian United. Todd also created one of his side’s goals. Their team will play Scott Gallagher in the semi-finals.
Midfielder Conor O’Sullivan has been honing his skills in the Boys’ Under-12 Blue Division. His side will take on Orlando City in the Silver Flight championship match.
In the Boys’ Under-11 Blue Division, defenders Adam Barritt and Xavier Hidalgo have delivered eye-catching displays. Their team will place Pumas FC from Honduras in the Silver Flight semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Devi Samuels has impressed in the Girls’ Under-11 and Under-12 Blue Division. She scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Florida Rush, and her team will now play the Under-12 Select Surf team in the semi-finals.
Richard Todd, the IDA Bermuda representative, has travelled to Orlando to observe the local players.
He said: “The Bermuda players have quickly acclimated to the high temperatures and have grown with confidence and increasing impact from game to game within their respective teams.
“The Surf Select teams have had to learn and grow with each game as the players have come together for this event from different parent clubs.
“Our players have made some notable contributions for their teams and are showing very well amongst their US peers in the age groups.”
