Swimmers Set For Carifta Championships

Bermuda’s swimmers are expected to take to the pool today [April 6] for the first day of the Carifta Championships in Willemstad, Curaçao.

Representing the island are Elanna Fulton, Marleigh Howes, Adriana Argent, Bella Howes, Myeisha Sharrieff, Imojen Judd, Connor Hupman, Brandon Adkins and Thomas Cechini.

Bermuda, whose squad have travelled with Ben Smith, the head coach, and team manager Shirene Fulton, will compete in the girls’ 15 to 17 relays and the individual events.

Among the swimmers who won medals at last year’s event in Barbados are sisters Bella and Marleigh Howes, with Bella winning silver in the 15 to 17 100 metres freestyle and Marleigh claiming gold in the 13 to 14 200 freestyle and silver in 100 freestyle.

Adkins helped Bermuda win bronze medals in the 4×100 freestyle and 4×100 medley relays, while Sharrieff took bronze in the 100 backstroke. Bermuda won 12 medals in Barbados.

The Championships run until Sunday.
