BUEI Films To Screen ‘The Inspection’ On April 8
The 2022 drama The Inspection will screen in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium on Saturday, April 8 at 7.00pm.
A spokesperson said, “Screening this Saturday, April 8th at 7pm in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium is the 2022 drama The Inspection.
“Starring Emmy and Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Pope [as seen on FX’s Pose, Netflix’s Hollywood, and the film One Night in Miami], The Inspection tells the true story of Ellis French, a troubled gay black man who enlists in the Marine Corps.
“Set in the 1990s during the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ era, the film explores French’s life after facing rejection from his mother, played by Gabrielle Union [Being Mary Jane, Two Can Play That Game, Bad Boys II].
Trailer for The Inspection:
“Thanks to the generous support of OUTBermuda, 125 general admission tickets to The Inspection have been made available for free on a first come, first served basis. Visit the events page of BUEI’s website at BUEI.bm to reserve your free ticket while they last.”
Zakiya Johnson Lord, OUTBermuda’s Co-Chair, said, “The opportunity to partner with BUEI in the screening of The Inspection is a welcomed chance to remind members of the LGBTQ+ community of the value of the arts, togetherness, and the power of visibility. Bermuda is ours to enjoy. We have to create safe space by taking up more space together and by partnering with organisations such as BUEI to create opportunities for us to come together.
“We want to remove any barriers to attending the film and by offering free tickets we’re saying – ‘If you want to go – we got you. Come as you are. You are not alone.”
Tiffany Paynter, OUTBermuda’s Executive Director, said, “It goes without saying and yet still needs to be said that the arts – music, visual, dance, and film – creates bridges of understanding between our differences and separateness. The Inspection is a beautiful offering to our LGBTQ+ community and an invitation to the wider community to explore and expand our understanding of the complexities of family, love, and finding the courage to live unapologetically.
“I look forward to seeing our communities, friends, and allies at BUEI on Saturday Night.”
The spokesperson said, “Next month, Films at BUEI will screen the 2021 documentary Summer of Soul on Saturday, April 22nd at 7pm.
“Directed by Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, Summer of Soul shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. The feature includes concert performances from the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension, and more.
“The Harlem Cultural Festival took place over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock; footage from the festival was largely forgotten – until now.
“The Films at BUEI series takes place every second and fourth Saturday of each month at 7pm in our Tradewinds Auditorium. Films selected for screening are intended for mature audiences and include a ticket option package featuring a beverage such as wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic drink, and snacks to enjoy during each show.
“Visit BUEI.bm or phone 294-0204 to learn more about Films at BUEI, explore our film line-up for, and reserve your seats while supplies last.
“Special thanks to Discovery Wines & Spirits and OutBermuda.”
