Saltus To Adopt BC Curriculum For 2024-25
Today, Saltus Grammar School announced that it will “transition to the internationally recognised British Columbia [BC, Canada] curriculum for the 2024-25 school year.”
Gil Tucker, Board Chair of Saltus Grammar School, commented, “In our continued efforts to provide a world-class curriculum that meets the needs of 21st-century learners, the Board of Trustees has voted unanimously in support of Saltus adopting the internationally recognized British Columbia [BC, Canada] curriculum and becoming a BC Offshore School. This spring, our new Head of School, Julie Rousseau, put forward a recommendation for a revised course of action that will further advance our commitment to providing all students with rigorous academic programming combined with engaging real-world learning experiences.
“Following an in-depth review of various curricular options from around the world a decision was made to transition to the BC Curriculum. We are confident that the adoption of this internationally recognised curriculum, combined with the strong leadership of Mme Rousseau and our dedicated team of Saltus educators, will ensure that Saltus students, from Foundation all the way to graduation, are provided with the best educational journey and have a well-established path to success.”
Mme Rousseau added, “A strong educational programme is one which embraces a continuous and responsive cycle of improvement. The decision to move to this curriculum comes after thorough programme review and months of consultation with all stakeholders in our community.
“The BC curriculum is already closely aligned with our school’s commitment to the programming priorities outlined in our most recent strategic plan, The Key, with the added benefit of a well-established and proven curriculum framework to support the work accomplished to date. The school’s vision for learning remains bold and unchanged. We continue to focus on the important foundational literacies, social and emotional competencies, and future-ready skills that will equip our students to thrive in their post-secondary studies and beyond.
“In addition, the progression to this new curriculum will honour the hard work and commitment already established by Saltus educators and provide a clear framework for establishing the knowledge, skills, values, and competencies that ensure student success all the way from Foundation to graduation.”
The spokesperson said, “Saltus expects to be fully certified and ready to offer the BC Curriculum for the start of the 2024-2025 academic school year. Graduates in the 2027-28 school year will be the first to be awarded the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma. Saltus will continue to offer its signature Reggio-inspired programme at the Lower Primary and Advanced Placement [AP] Courses for Senior students on their path to graduation. These programmes will effectively complement the BC curriculum and will provide strong continuity of programming. Until the BC Curriculum is fully transitioned to all year levels, the school will continue to offer a rigorous [i]GCSE programme for its senior students and support them through to successful graduation.”
