Softball Bermuda League Competition Results

April 17, 2023

Softball Bermuda commenced its League competition on Monday 10th April. Rain postponed the first two nights with play starting in earnest on Wednesday 12th April. Member teams increased from 22 last season to 28 teams in this current season with games scheduled Monday through Thursday with start times of 6pm, 7:30pm and 9pm.

In A Division action, Moongate Brewers outgunned The Hit Factory 29 – 21 behind Danny Cook [3 for 5 – 1hr, 6rbi], Kyle Steineman [3 for 5 – 2hr, 5rbi], Terence Corday [3 for 5 – 1hr 5rbi] and Mike Sakata [2 for 5 – 1hr, 5rbi]. The Hit Factory’s Steve Simons [4 for 4 – 3hr, 9rbi] led all batters and was assisted by Shaq Trott [2 for 5 – 2rbi] in a losing effort. A big 10-run 4th inning including a grand-slam by Cook put Brewers ahead 22 – 10, a lead that they would not relinquish.

In B Division action, Team Smokey made light work of newcomers, Hosers, thrashing them 24 – 4 in 4 innings. Quincy Jones [4 for 4 – 1d, 3rbi], Dion Ball and Devin Saltus each with 2rbi did most of the damage in what was a balanced offensive display. Hosers could only manage 4 total team hits with Sam Trewick-Coleman [1 for 2 – 2rbi] leading their anemic offense.

In women’s action, PHC Zebras were too strong for Hardknockz winning with a commanding score of 19 – 8. Tawana Lee [3 for 5 – 1d, 4rbi], Ria Grenado, Ambya Smith and Jashonte Trott with 2rbi each lead the charge for PHC. Sarah Robinson and Tracey Marshall each had 2 hits for Hardknockz.

In D Division action, Bad News Beers played Five O’s and won comfortably 11 – 6. This is their first game as a new member team and they look as if they might be a sleeper in this division and one to keep an eye on. Five O’s Deforest Evans led off the bottom of the 2nd inning with a homer and looked as if they would be too strong for The Beers. However, their offense stuttered and The Beers eventually found their rhythm and produced 4 unanswered runs in the 7th inning to put the game out of reach. Charlie Dutranoit [3 for 5 – 2rbi] and Billy Boyle [3 for 5 – 1rbi] topped all Beers batters while Alex Rollins [3 for 3] and Jonathon Talbot [2 for 4 – 1rbi] led Five O’s offense.

Two new teams, St George’s Cricket Club, and The Pitch Invaders battled it out in the only other game in this division. St George’s took their Cup Match frustrations out on Pitch Invaders crushing them 19 – 8 behind Zeko Burgess [4 for 4 – 2hr, 1d, 6rbi] and Onias Bascome [2 for 4 – 2hr, 4rbi]. Keisha Simmons [2 for 3 – 1d, 2rbi] and Kejon Butterfield [2 for 4 – 2rbi] led Pitch Invaders in defeat.

In E Division action, Butterfield & Vallis Sliders welcomed Home None to the division with a 19 – 4 battering. Chris Mayne [4rbi], Marcus Johnson [3rbi] and 2rbi from Daemon Hanley and Samuel Viera did most of the damage. Home None scored 1 run in the 1st inning and rounded out their scoring with 3 runs in the 3rd inning including a 2rbi triple by Alex Godet.
