Bermudian footballer Jasmine Spence has played a pivotal role in helping Newport Pagnell Town Women claim the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League Division Three title.

Spence, who joined the Buckinghamshire outfit in October last year, was the team’s second-leading scorer with ten goals in as many games and had the second-highest number of assists with seven.

The team won 13 of their 16 league matches, losing twice and drawing once.

Spence, 24, said their success was all the more impressive considering they started the campaign with a new group of players.

“The club restructured their women’s programme in the summer,” she told Bernews.

“The team had been strong a few years ago, but had fallen apart, so we were starting from scratch.

“The coaches [Ryan Hill and Lou Barry] were new, and the players were new.

“We came from nothing and built into something. I didn’t expect that when I joined.”

The attacking midfielder said she was satisfied with her contribution; however, she believes she has plenty more to offer and has ambitions to climb the English football pyramid.

It is understood the club have requested to skip two leagues and enter the sixth tier of women’s football next term.

“I’ve made some strides but still have some ways to go,” said Spence, a former Wales Under-16 and Bermuda Under-17 international. “I was fairly consistent throughout the season.”

Spence, who was part of Milton Keynes Women’s Development squad last season, has continued her passion for coaching, taking charge of the Newport Pagnell Town Girls Under-13.

She previously coached football and futsal on the island as the assistant programme director at the CP Athletic Development Academy.

“The girls come to our games to watch me play,” she added. “Hopefully, I can be a bit of an inspiration to them. I’m having fun and staying in the moment.”
