Butterfield Open House During Harbour Nights

Butterfield invites the public to come and view its reopened Front Street Banking Centre this Wednesday [May 24], from 7-9pm during the first Harbour Nights festival of the 2023 season to mark the building’s 100th anniversary.

A spokesperson said, “The design of the fully renovated space was inspired by records and photography of the original 1923 banking hall found in Butterfield’s archives. In celebration of local talent, culture and creativity, original artworks by 17 Bermudian artists are exhibited throughout the Front Street Banking Centre.

“Art was curated with the assistance of Lisa Howie of Black Pony Gallery and Selange Gitschner of Dasfete. Local artists on display include Nhuri Bashir [a.k.a. HAQQ], Alfred Birdsey, James Cooper, Jayde Gibbons, Phoebe Hughes, Sabriyya Harvey, Gherdai Hassell, Stratton Hatfield, Catherine C. R. Lapsley, Bill Ming, Sharon Muhammad, Emma Sloan, Dr Edwin M.E. Smith, Michael Walsh, design company Uber Super Duper, and Charles Zuill.

Shawnette Griffin, Butterfield’s Head of Retail and Operations, said: “We know the public have been very curious to see what was happening behind the construction hoarding at 65 Front Street, and we are delighted to welcome our clients and the general public back to our historic home.

“We encourage everyone to come out and support our Harbour Nights vendors this Wednesday, and to stop by our open house to see our new space and help us celebrate the return of relationship banking to Front Street and mark the 100th anniversary of our building.”

The Front Street Banking Centre is open for business from 9am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, with an accessible entrance via the retail arcade at 67 Front Street.
