Nusum & Chowdhury Make ‘Role Model List’

Katrina Nusum and Karim Chowdhury have been named in the Empower Role Model List of 100 Senior Executives, which celebrates those who are breaking down barriers for people of colour within global businesses.

The lists, compiled by Involve and supported by YouTube, also celebrate 100 Future Leaders making a significant contribution to ethnically diverse inclusion at work and 50 Advocates creating a more diverse and inclusive business environment for ethnically diverse employees.

Ms Nusum is head of group compliance and deputy Bermuda site head at Fidelity International.

According to the empower.involverolemodels.org website, Ms Nusum “is actively involved in building a community throughout their offices for ethnically diverse employees by working with the senior leadership team to implement the Cultural Diversity Action Plan, to set ethnic diversity targets and to implement programs and activities that will support and develop culturally diverse staff and contribute to Fidelity’s corporate culture.

“Katrina is also a Stanford National Black Alumni Association Board Associate, where she co-hosts events to provide Black Stanford students and alumni information on topics relevant to them, such as mental health, childhood financial insecurity, defining career paths, and how to network successfully.”

According to the website, Mr Chowdhury, vice-president of private banking at Butterfield Group, “was also listed as an EqualityX 2022 Top 100 Influential Muslim in the UK and Top 10 Influential Muslim in the Financial and Professional services category.

“He has recently been involved in forming Butterfield’s first DE&I council, selected as a member representing Bermuda. In his previous role, Karim was a founding member and deputy chair of the Unity network, promoting DE&I at Schroders Personal Wealth.

“He was also an ally of the Woman’s, Disability and LBGT+ networks. Karim provides mentoring to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“He has arranged work experience, CV support and networking opportunities for students encouraging them to pursue a career in financial services. He has made it his mission to seek out and help others who don’t have suitable and inspiring role models to fulfil their potential.”
