Video: U.S. Consulate Spotlights Alia Peets
The U.S. Consulate General continues its Study With “US” video campaign series by spotlighting Alia Peets.
A spokesperson said, “Alia is pursuing her dream career as a veterinarian through her undergraduate studies at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
“In the video, launched today on Facebook and Instagram [@USConsulateHamilton], Alia shares her reasons for choosing to study in the United States and encourages students to turn their dreams into reality. ”
“I chose to study in the United States because it was easier, it was closer to home, and the programs…in the United States were more accessible,” she said.
The spokesperson said, “Alia earned a merit scholarship of $15,000 to Sweet Briar College based on her high school grade point average and received an additional scholarship as an international student. Sweet Briar supports international students academically and financially and assists with the admissions and financial aid process.”
“Bermuda has a lot of political and government relations with the United States,” she says, as she highlights the special relationship between both countries and ease of obtaining a student visa. She also explains how U.S. colleges are seeking diversity and international students. She noted she received information directly from the college about requirements for international students, including the one-time Student and Exchange [SEVIS] fee.
At a young age, she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and through her studies in the United States, she is turning that dream into a reality.
“It’s important to grow beyond your goals and dreams. I wanted to become a vet at 4 or 5 years old. I took this dream and I’m making it become a reality,” she said.
“More international students choose to study in the U.S. than in any other country.”" U.S. Consul General Grissette shared, “With over 4,500 accredited institutions of higher education, the United States has a college or university right for every student.” She added, “We are so pleased that Bermudians continue to take advantage of the range of affordable study options and scholarships that can be sourced in Bermuda or directly through U.S. institutions.” There is no need for separate biometrics collection from Bermudians who choose to study in the United States.
