Swimmers Win Nine Medals In The Bahamas

The 51st edition of the Bahamas National Swimming Championships got underway with Bermuda swimmers taking to the pool in Nassau.

Following a strong morning in the preliminaries, swimmers returned to the pool for the finals, where they claimed 9 medals.

Connor Hupman claimed the bronze medal in the 13-14 Boy’s 800m Freestyle Age Group in a time of 9:49.38, while Thomas Cechini won the silver medal in the 15-17 Boy’s Age Group.

Next up was the 200m Breaststroke where Tallulah Parkinson finished fourth in a time of 3:06.59 in the Girls 11-12 Age Group, Rhys Insley placed fourth in the Boys 15-17 Age Group with a time of 2:38.75 and Sam Williamson won the 18 & Over Age Group gold medal in a time of 2:24.03.

The 50m backstroke was the next event with Arabella Newport-Derbyshire clocking a winning time of 32.80 in the Girls 13-14 Age Group, Violet Smith finished with the silver medal in a time of 33.89. Connor Hupman was up next and captured the bronze medal in a time of 29.68 in the Boys 13-14 Age Group. Taylor White went on to capture silver medal in the Girls 18 & Over Age Group. Finishing out the 50 backstroke series were Brian Desmond, who finished 7th in a time of 28.60, and Finn Moseley 8th in a time of 29.61 in the Boys 18 & Over Age Group.

The 100m butterfly was up next with several Bermuda swimmers taking to the pool. In the Girls 13-14 Age Group Marleigh Howes finished 3rd in a time of 1:09.36 to claim the bronze medal, Arabella Newport-Derbyshire 4th in a time of 1:09.62, and Elanna Fulton 5th in a time of 1:11.59. Noah Maranzana was up next in the 13-14 Boy’s Age Group finishing 8th in a time of 1:10.08. Imojen Judd and Pippa Charleson swam to 5th and 6th place in the 15-16 Girls’ Age Group in 1:08.73 and 1:09.56 respectively. Thomas Cechini was 5th in the 15-17 Boys Age Group in a time of 1:00.53, Taylor White won the silver medal in the Girls 18 & Over Age Group in a time of 1:09.08, while Finn Moseley was 9th in a time of 1:01.84 and Caleb Ingham was 11th in a time of 1:04.51 in the Boys 18 & Over Age Group.

The night concluded with the 200m freestyle relay where Elanna Fulton, Katherine Wheddon, Arabella Newport Derbyshire, and Marleigh Howes won the silver medal in the 13-14 Girls Age Group, and then the 18 & Over Boys team made up of Finn Moseley, Brian Desmond, Sam Williamson, and Caleb Ingham won a silver medal in an unofficial Bermuda National Record time of 1:37.86.
