A crewmember aboard the vessel Quest suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung after a fall, and was treated in Bermuda once the ship arrived on the island.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Monday, May 29 at 2.00pm, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a telephone call from the recently departed 57-foot Catamaran Quest that a crewmember had fallen six to seven feet from the mast onto his back.

“The injured crewmember was conscious but due to the pain around his rib cage they suspected broken ribs. Details and photos were sent to KEMH to prepare for his arrival. An ambulance was arranged but cancelled by the vessel as they would arrange a taxi to the hospital.

“The Quest arrived at the customs dock at 8.00am the following day, and the crewmember was taken to hospital. A later update from the Quest skipper was that the crewmember had a collapsed lung and broken ribs, so would recover in hospital for three to four days.”
