DJ Rodigan & Dynamq To Headline ‘World Class’
Veteran reggae and dancehall DJ David Rodigan and South Sudanese reggae-dancehall artist Dynamq are set to perform in Bermuda at the ‘World Class’ party event taking place on Saturday [June 10].
A spokesperson said, “Veteran reggae and dancehall DJ, David Rodigan – in what is believed to be his ‘last hurrah’ in international touring – is one of two popular international acts set to perform in Bermuda at this weekend’s ‘World Class’ party event taking place on Saturday, June 10th.
“David Michael ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan, a British Radio DJ and disc jockey, know for his selections of reggae and dancehall music, has visited the Island a number of times over the years and admits Bermuda is one of his favorite places to perform. Now age 71, Rodigan said he is still passionate about DJing, however, going forward will be taking a break from international touring.
“He will be joined on stage at the Barr’s Bay Park event by African sensation, Dynamq, [real name: Kennedy Ongele Lorya], a South Sudanese reggae-dancehall artist and DJ who has amassed more than 126K fans on social media site Facebook. Dynamq is a former World Clash Champion, having won the globally renown sound clash championship in 2021, and is regularly featured as a guest DJ on the Jamrock Reggae Cruise, which features a star-studded lineup of reggae performers like Stephen Marley and Maxi Priest.”
Local event organiser and promoter, Nasir Maynard, CEO of Envy Productions said of this Saturday’s event: “We are extremely excited we were able get Rodigan to come to the Island for one final hurrah, as this is expected to be his last international tour. I have a mutual friend who has played music with Rodigan for many years who was able to persuade him to include Bermuda on his list of stops.
“He will be joined by Dynamq, who is considered one of the best rising stars in the DJ industry. It’s kind of like a unicorn event – in that these two world class DJs aren’t likely to perform again together in a setting like this. The timing was also impeccable to do it as if we had tried to get these two stars together in a few months’ time due to their schedules and one retiring from touring, it wouldn’t even be possible.”
The spokesperson said, “The international DJs will be joined by one of Bermuda’s homegrown talents,. The event will be hosted by Yetta, with an early warmup by DJ Markie T.”
Dynamq said: “This is my third time in Bermuda and I’m looking forward to creating a historic moment with two of my favorite legendary sounds – Rodigan, who is a giant in the industry with lots of knowledge, and local DJ SoulJah One, whom I’ve known for a long time. I’m looking forward to bringing Bermuda nothing but niceness. People will enjoy it for sure because it’s three big sounds with different styles of playing. I know for sure they’ll feel amazed and ask for more towards the end of the night.”
Rodigan added: “Bermuda is one of my favourite places to perform because Bermudians really know about reggae music and sound system culture so I am really looking forward to returning and entertaining the fans. Party goers can expect to hear some of my classic dub plate specials and vintage thrillers. Reggae music has a great heritage so my selection will range from the latest Beres Hammond hits to vintage Shabba Ranks, Barrington Levy and Bounty Killer.”
The spokesperson said, “Rodigan admitted he takes great pride in playing real authentic reggae music and vintage dancehall.”
Mr Maynard said reggae and dancehall continue to be popular genres for music lovers on the Island as it is what so many locals are brought up listening to. “So many of us were raised listening to reggae and dancehall music, which is why these genres continue to be so mainstream in Bermuda today,” he said. “Whether it was listening to Bob Marley with our parents in the living room or Beres Hammond on the radio, so many of us enjoy the rhythm, beat and nostalgia from this kind of music as it transports us to happy times from our lives – past and present.”
The spokesperson said, “Tickets, $75 for General and $150 for VIP, which includes special parking, a VIP lounge area, food, air conditioned bathrooms, two free drinks, as well as other beverages, are available at Choices Mens Wear and www.bdatix.bm.”
