Eunice V. Sharpe Memorial Award On June 21
The second annual Eunice V. Sharpe Memorial Award will be presented on Wednesday [June 21] at the Francis Patton school’s transition ceremony.
A spokesperson said, “Established in 2021 by the Baha’is of Hamilton Parish, with the endorsement of the school and the family of the late Mrs. Sharpe, the award commemorates the 100th anniversary of the passing, in 1921, of the son of the Prophet-Founder of the Baha’i Faith, ‘Abdi’l-Baha which means: Servant of Baha’u’llah, and in the memory of the dearly-loved Baha’i, the late Mrs. Eunice Veronica Sharpe.
“Living atop Cottage Hill, Crawl, Hamilton Parish with a commanding view of the school and the North Shore, all Mrs. Sharpe’s children attended Francis Patton. And today, one of her daughters, Florence Sharpe, will soon retire from the school after some 36 years of service.
“The Baha’i community deemed it a befitting tribute to mark the centennial passing of ‘Abdu’l-Baha and in the memory of Mrs. Sharpe, who passed away in August 2020.
“She reflected in her being, in her character, and presence those attributes and qualities of eloquent speech, of a charming and radiant countenance, always cheerful, always smiling, always offering an encouraging word.”
‘Abdu’l-Baha said, “Now is the time to speak forth and to deliver speeches. Encourage ye the school children, from their earliest years, to deliver speeches of high quality, so that in their leisure time they will engage in giving cogent and effective talks, expressing themselves with clarity and eloquence.”
The spokesperson said, “As an active parent of students at the school, Mrs. Sharpe contributed numerous services to the school; among them, she read stories to the various classes with her commanding presentation and presence. Her diction was tops.
“In 2021, to mark this once in a lifetime occasion, the governing body of the Baha’i world, the Universal House of Justice, invited Baha’is from every corner of the planet to the Baha’i World Centre to observe the centenary of ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s ascension. The late Mrs. Sharpe had the bounty of visiting the Holy Land and the Baha’i World Centre in early 2000 for the opening of the Terraces on Mount Carmel, Haifa surrounding the Shrine of the Bab with a group of other Bermudian Baha’is.”
