OpenMat Athletes Win 15 Medals In Brooklyn

Junior athletes from OpenMat Bermuda have returned to the island with 15 medals won at the Grappling Industries Brooklyn BJJ GI and Noji Round-Robin Tournament at the weekend.
Twelve youngsters represented the Mills Creek Road gym at the Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Centre in Brooklyn, New York.
Winning medals were Oren Henderson [two gold], Ezra Dyer [two bronze], Keegan Dyer [two silver], Gabrielle Henderson [two silver], Giles Roberts [silver and bronze], Goncalo Ramos [silver and bronze], Oscar Regan [silver], Gaia Angeli [silver], and Elias Angeli [silver]. Thea Dyer, Evelyn Czember, who was without an opponent, and Simon Henderson, who was injured, also travelled.
Aaron Dyer, the OpenMat Bermuda founder, told Bernews: “We won a lot of hardware! All the kids did amazingly well.
“They’re beginning to understand the difference between competing at the gym and a tournament. Their confidence has gone through the roof! All the kids gained valuable experience in Brooklyn.”
