Bermuda Regiment Running Recruitment Drive

Royal Bermuda Regiment troops will be in the community this week to provide information as they makes a call for its next intake of soldiers.

A spokesperson said, “Residents aged 18 to 52 are invited to sign up for the fulfilling opportunities offered by the RBR ahead of a basic soldier training camp that will run from July 9 to 21.”

Major Dwight Robinson, the Regiment Career Management Officer, said: “The recruiting teams will be on radio shows and at various locations around the island this week and particularly within the City of Hamilton, including at Harbour Nights on Wednesday, and in the Town of St George.

“We have giveaways for interested persons and our presence will allow the community to interact with the troops, learn a little bit about the Regiment , what it does and its history, and to ask any questions anyone may have about the organisation.”

The spokesperson said, “He highlighted that the RBR offers a challenging yet rewarding training and working environment, as well as opportunities to engage with service personnel in other jurisdictions and at all levels of command.

“It can provide support for continuing education in both personal and service-focused disciplines.”

Maj Robinson added: “The Regiment is an organisation which promotes, among other things, leadership, team work, self-actualisation, resource management and accountability – to oneself, to each other and to the Regiment.”

The spokesperson said, “An assessment night will be held on Thursday, June 29 at Warwick Camp from 6.30pm, when applicants will undergo a brief physical check by the Regiment’s doctor and take part in a personal fitness test. They will also be asked a few questions in a short interview.”

Major Preston Gill, Officer Commanding Training Wing, said: “If anyone is interested or has been thinking about the Regiment, now is the time to put your hand up.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn, increase fitness, network – you’re going to make friends for a lifetime.”
He added: “We want to make a good citizen even better; we want to invest in them.

“We’re looking for people that want a challenge, someone who wants to work on their physical fitness.

“They might also want to work on soft skills like how to communicate with peers, networking, how to dress for success.

“We’re looking for males, females, people of different backgrounds, as long as you can legally reside in Bermuda.”

The spokesperson said, “Maj Gill also highlighted that the RBR is keen to hear from people with previous service experience.

“New recruits with a passion to be on the water will have the chance, after successful completion of their initial training period, to apply for the Coast Guard’s assessment process as the unit aims to swell its ranks.
