Bermuda will have three competitors in clay shooting at the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey, the Channel Islands.

J. Andrew Pereira, the most experienced of the trio, James Davis and Patrick Mahoney are members of the Bermuda Trap and Skeet Club in Smith’s.

Bermudians Pereira and Davis, both 52, will compete in the Olympic Skeet individual and team events and English Sporting individual and team events; Mahoney, 43, will participate in the Men’s Automatic Ball Trap individual event.

For Pereira, Guernsey will be his third Island Games, having competed in Bermuda in 2013 and Jersey in 2015.

“I’m hoping to qualify for the medal round,” said club president Pereira, who started shooting in 2010. “If I get some luck, I’ll be there at the end somewhere. There could be an opportunity to win a medal.”

Davis, whose daughter Victoria Davis is part of the Bermuda women’s football team at the Games, started shooting three years ago and will be making his debut on the international stage.

“My expectations are fairly limited,” Davis, the club treasurer, said. “I want to gain some experience, enjoy the Games, and help Andy [Pereira] in the team events.”
