IDA Bermuda To Play In Northern Ireland
IDA Bermuda has been welcomed back to the SuperCupNI football tournament, with the boys select team playing in the minor division of the competition, which will be held from July 23 through July 28 in Northern Ireland.
A spokesperson said, “In 2022, IDA Bermuda launched its travel program with 3 teams traveling to Northern Ireland to participate in the SuperCupNI youth football tournament. SuperCupNI [formerly NI Milk Cup, established in 1983] is one of the world’s most renowned youth football tournaments.
“This elite competition provides opportunities for boys and girls from across the world to participate in a week long football extravaganza. The competition takes place in one of Northern Ireland’s tourist hotspots and the competition itself is one of the biggest sporting events in Northern Ireland.
“In 2019, the 13 venues used had spectators in excess of 50,000 through the week and the competition attracted teams such as Manchester United, Valencia, Arsenal, Rangers, Leeds United, Celtic, and Right to Dream from Ghana. In 2022, the winners included Manchester United, Ipswich Town, and Charlton Athletic, and the next tournament will take place from Sunday 23rd July until Friday 28th July 2023.
“IDA Bermuda is pleased to have been welcomed back to the tournament, with the 2010 boys select team playing in the minor division of the competition.
“The Bermuda teams had some success in 2022, capturing the Vase Championship in the U16 [Junior] and U18 [Premier] divisions, while the U14 IDA Bermuda team finished as runner-up in the Youth division of the Vase Championship.
“IDA Bermuda, led by coaches Richard Todd and Thaaqib Talbot, have been placed in group A along with Belvedere FC [Dublin, Ireland], Linfield FC [Belfast, Northern Ireland], and Warrenpoint Town FC [Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland]. The team departed Bermuda on Wednesday, July 19, and will spend a few days ahead of the start of the tournament training and playing practice matches against local opposition.
“The boys minor division is a 16 team open tournament; eligible teams may be either club teams or teams representing more than one club. Northern Ireland representation must be club teams from a recognised league.
“Four groups consisting of four teams. Each team will play three group games through Monday, July 24 to Wednesday, July 26, with points awarded as follows:
- Win: 3 Points
- Draw: 1 Point
“Based on group stage performance, teams will qualify for the semi-finals of the following:
- SuperCupNI: The winner in each group.
- SCNI Globe: Second place in each group.
- SCNI Vase: Third place in each group.
- SCNI Bowl: Fourth place in each group.
