Sean Trott Has High Hopes For Island Games

Bermuda distance runner Sean Trott said he would be “over the moon” to return home with a medal from the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey, the Channel Islands.
Trott is aiming to add to the three bronze medals [10,000 metres, half-marathon individual and half-marathon team] he won at the Isle of Wight Games in 2011.
The 33-year-old, who will compete in the 10,000 and half-marathon in Guernsey, narrowly missed out on bronze at the previous Games in Gibraltar in 2019, finishing fourth in the 10,000. He came eighth in the 5,000 and half-marathon.
“I expect a high level of competition in Guernsey; I know the Isle of Man will bring a competitive team,” Trott told Bernews. “There’s usually some strong competition from Guernsey too. I’ve raced against most of these guys at previous Games.
“It’s a great event, so well organised. Competing for Bermuda makes you push even harder. I’d be over the moon to win a medal.”
Trott, who ran personal bests in the 10,000 [31min 34sec] and the half-marathon [1:12:20] in the Isle of Wight in 2011, hopes to carry his fitness from the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby last month, where he finished second, into his races in Guernsey.
“I’ve kept my head down since May 24,” he said. “I got back into it [training] as soon as I recovered.
“I hoped for a better time [1:16:20] in the May 24 race. I think the heat and humidity brought my time down a bit. Hopefully, I can run close to what my fitness is indicating.”
Trott will join Sammy DeGraff, a former Bermuda national team footballer, in the half-marathon team event.
“I didn’t have a team-mate in Gibraltar in 2019, but me and Stephen Allen won bronze in the Isle of Wight [in 2011]. It would be great if me and Sammy could medal.”
