Bernard Wade III has claimed Bermuda’s second medal at the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey after winning silver in archery today [July 10].
Wade finished second in the single WA 1440 men’s recurve at the Rovers Archery Club in Port Soif, scoring 1,193 points.
Hans Petur Hojgaard, of the Faroe Islands, won gold with a score of 1,202 points. Bermuda’s Robert O’Connor came thirtieth with 695 points.
It is Wade’s second medal at the Island Games, having won silver with Tiffney Slaton in the mixed recurve head-to-head team knockout event in Gotland, Sweden, in 2017
“It was a tough day,” Wade told Bernews. “It started with a lot of wind off and on.
“I was able to focus and realised what I needed to do. I was able to score pretty high.
“When I found out I’d won silver, I was happy, but also trying to keep calm.”
Wade will now turn his attention to the men’s 720 recurve event.
This marks the second medal for the island, as Bermuda men’s tennis team of Gavin Manders, David Thomas, James Finnigan, Scott Redmond and Christopher Weeks won bronze in the team event yesterday.
