BELCO Signs On As Signature Learning Partner
BELCO has committed their support to the Signature Learning Programs at Cedarbridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute.
“As we prepare for the second year of Signature Learning in Bermuda’s Public School System[BPSS], what better way to celebrate than to welcome BELCO to the BPSS family, as yet another Signature Learning Partner,” said Minister of Education Diallo Rabain.
A Government spokesperson said, “BELCO joins Koom Consulting, Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS], Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science [BIOS], Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI], KPMG in Bermuda and the Association of Bermuda International Companies [ABIC] as having signed Memoranda of Understanding [MoUs] committing their support to the Signature Learning Programs at Cedarbridge Academy and The Berkeley Institute.”
The Minister added, “We’re delighted that one of Bermuda’s largest employers is willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved in building a future workforce equipped with the knowledge, skills and values needed to succeed. Education is everyone’s business.
The spokesperson said, “The MoU sets out that, as Bermuda’s sole supplier of electricity, BELCO is committed to working with the BPSS to support the development of young Bermudians that can sustain the provision of safe, reliable and cost-effective electricity generation, transmission and distribution of utility services to the wider community of Bermuda. They will support BPSS students enrolled in the STEM, Trades & Professions and Financial & Insurance Services Signature Learning Programmes, with a focus on those pursuing the following Accountancy, Engineering, Automotive Technology and Electrical.”
BELCO President Wayne Caines said, “At BELCO we have a long history of supporting students and young Bermudians through scholarships, internships and apprenticeships. We are thrilled to announce our latest partnership with the BPSS to introduce our students to the opportunities in the electric utility sector. As we work towards our goal of Net Zero there will be many exciting and enriching opportunities for Bermudians to be a part of our sustainable energy future.”
Lisa DeSilva, Education Reform Unit Lead, said “Signature Learning Partnerships like this one with BELCO will help young Bermudians better understand different career paths available to them, and better prepare them for further education and/or accelerated progress towards employment. Having our educators work alongside BELCO experts to design real-world projects and support field trips to BELCO sites can help deliver the kinds of authentic, engaging and relevant real-world learning that Education Reform is all about.”
“Community and industry partners will continue to be recruited to become Learning Partners to Bermuda’s public school system as new Signature Learning Programmes and Parish Primary schools come online.
