The event organisers said, “Bermuda got off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over hosts Antigua and Barbuda in the Tier II Group B match of the 2023 CFU Girls’ U14 Challenge Series at the ABFA Technical Center in St. John’s, Antigua on Friday.
“The match started with great intensity, with end-to-end action that thrilled the spectators.
“Rolesha Humphreys of Antigua and Barbuda attempted to open the scoring in the second minute, but the alert Bermuda keeper, Semaj Baisden-Scott, saved the shot. Baisden-Scott had another save in the 11th minute after a strike from Keitonya Skepple of the Benna Girls.
‘The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute with a brilliant strike by Cayli Dowling which eluded the fingers of Antigua and Barbuda’s custodian Alyssa Laviscount. Bermuda then extended the lead in the 31st minute courtesy Avery Taylor.
“At the interval, Antigua and Barbuda trailed Bermuda 2-0. On the resumption of the intense encounter, the Benna Girls came out determined to get on the scoreboard. But brilliant defending by Miyari Trott and the wittiness of the goalkeeper kept them at bay.
“The end-to-end action continued which resulted in a goalless second half.
“Both teams displayed resilience and determination, but it was the girls from Bermuda that came away victorious.
