PLP: Ben Smith Not ‘Taking Accountability’
The “oped by OBA candidate Ben Smith is yet another example of him running from his responsibilities,” the PLP said.
A spokesperson said, “Just as he failed to take responsibility for abandoning the seat he lost and the constituents he failed to represent, today he is failing to take responsibility for his own actions.
“The scripted 20 min long 2020 election video attacking the Premier and by extension, every Bermudian with a non-Bermudian parent’s loyalty was wrong, period.
“Mr. Smith’s claim that it was edited is totally false. The entire video is still posted on the OBA Facebook page and can still be found here.
“Rather than apologize and admit their error in 2020, the OBA are choosing to double down on mistruths.
“It was clear then, and even clearer now, that majority of the public saw it for what it was – a xenophobic attack, hence rejecting both Mr. Smith and Ms. Scott at the polls.
“Both the OBA & Mr. Smith should take responsibility. Mr. Smith is not only running from his failures in C31, he is also running from taking accountability for being complicit in this video conversation.”

There was no xenophobic comment from the OBA in the original video, I just watched it. It talks about the PLP being Xenophobic and then references that Burt is not multi generation Bermudian. Has there been a shortened version, as the original OBA one doesn’t focus in on Smiths face as per the description.
Nearly snorted my coffee across the table reading the PLP demanding accountability: how about accountability for Faith Based tourism, the Port Royal renovation, the Black Mayors’ conference, the TCD and Berkeley overruns, the KEMH financial fiasco and, lest we forget, $800,000 to a con man from Atlanta. We won’t even mention the overall multi billion debt accrued by the PLP.
The plp are the party of “removing already won rights”, “Billions in debt”, fraud, corruption…and hypocrisy.
The UBP/oba is a party that changed it name to run away from it’s racist past. Good luck with all the new surrogates. Hmmm like that’s going to make a difference.
