Berkeley Institute Celebrates 126 Years
The Berkeley Institute is celebrating the 126th Anniversary of the School’s opening, on Wednesday [Sept 6].
A spokesperson said, “This is an annual event designed to acknowledge and celebrate the official opening of the school, on September 6, 1897. For anything, to last 126 years, let alone become the institution that has produced generations of graduates that have gone on to become notable persons locally and globally is worth celebrating.
“Alumni, friends, family, supporters are encouraged to attend the reception, which begins at 5:30pm in the Lower Atrium of the school, on 26 Berkeley Road. Attendees can anticipate mixing and mingling with other alumni, friends, and supporters, as well as an Alumni Bingo, and door prizes for the best dressed in Berkeley Uniform, oldest & youngest alumni present.
“Alumni are encouraged to wear their school uniform, take a photo and share it on Instagram tagging The Berkeley Institute [@theberkeley_bda] #berkeley126. The photo with the most ‘likes’ at the end of the day will win a ticket to the reception.
“We take a few moments every year, to remember those alumni and associates we have lost in the last year. This year, is especially solemn with the recent passing of Former Principal Mrs. Michelle Simmons, who served as the 6th Principal, and first female principal for 21 years. She always attended these events if possible, and she will be great miss for The Berkeley Family. We will also take a moment to remember Mr. Sinclair White, former Chairman of The Berkeley Educational Society who passed in March.
“Tickets to attend can be purchased at The Berkeley School Office, or from BES Members. General Admission is $40, $25 for Current Berkeley Students & Seniors. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.”
