Yushae DeSilva-Andrade hopes to continue her strong form when she heads into her opening game of the Fortaleza World Boccia Cup in Brazil today [September 5].

DeSilva-Andrade takes on Hirmi Endo, of Japan, the world number 15, in her opening women’s BC1 division game before facing Satanan Phromisiri, of Thailand, the world number six.

“I plan to carry on my [recent] good performances,” DeSilva-Andrade told Bernews.

“I’ll focus on playing my game, look to have fun, and do my best. That’s all I can do.

“I’ve been working on my placement, drive shots, and being more accurate.”

DeSilva-Andrade, who will compete at the Parapan Am Games in Santiago, Chile, in November, added: “I watched my opponents [yesterday] to figure out how I’ll play in my opening games.”

Bermudian Omar Hayward started his men’s BC1 division campaign in Fortaleza yesterday with a 6-1 defeat against Eduardo Sanchez, of Mexico, the world number eight.

Hayward plays Witsanu Huadpradit, of Thailand, the world number 25, today.
