‘Bus Terminal Will Be Temporarily Closed’

The City of Hamilton advised “motorists, businesses, and the general public that as of October 23rd work is due to commence on the resurfacing of the Entrance and Exit points of the Hamilton Central Bus Terminal located on Washington Street.”

A spokesperson said, “Due to the necessary work, the bus terminal will be temporarily closed until the road paving concludes, which is scheduled to be October 30th, 2023. These dates were chosen in collaboration with the Bermuda Public Transportation Department, as schools will be on midterm break during that time.

“The following sections of road will be closed during this time:

  • Washington Street from Victoria Street to Church Street
  • Victoria Street from Cedar Avenue to Dismont Drive – [Buses only; no local access]

“A temporary bus terminal will be created along Victoria Street between Cedar Avenue and Wesley Street.

“The public will have access to board and depart busses along Victoria Street as follows:

  • All buses traveling west will be stationed in the westbound lane outside of the public bathrooms on Victoria Street, towards the junction with Wesley Street.
  • All buses traveling east will be stationed in the eastbound lane opposite the public bathrooms on Victoria Street towards the junction of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street. Parking will be restricted in these areas.
  • All cycle parking bays located along Victoria Street between Cedar Avenue and Washington Street will be off-limits to the public during the above dates. Parking will be available in the City Hall Car Park for people who hold Parking Permits for the restricted areas and these permit holders have been made aware of this temporary arrangement.
  • Buses coming into the temporary depot will do so as follows: buses entering from the east will turn right onto Dundonald Street and then left onto Washington Street and left back onto Victoria Street heading east to exit back out to the east.

“The Entrance and Exit of the bus depot are in need of repair as they are subject to the repeated turning of heavy vehicles on a daily basis which creates significant wear and tear on the asphalt in these areas.

“Traffic management measures along with signage and barriers will be in place for the duration of the works.

“The City of Hamilton apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Heads up, that means more cancellations and delays.

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

How much sense would it make to do the work at night, when service is greatly reduced or finished for the day?

  3. Hey says:

Should be using concrete in the areas of where busses wheels turning as such a tight angle. Either that or move bus station.
