Faith Initiative Promotes Israel/Palestine Peace

October 21, 2023

An inter-faith collaboration across the island is addressing the Israel/Palestine crisis, “focusing on promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation in response to the recent violence and displacement” with a number of events.

A spokesperson said, “An inter-faith collaboration has begun across the island, regarding the unprecedented Israeli/Palestinian crisis. We are joining people of conscience around the globe who are concerned about the welfare of all civilians who have been adversely impacted by this tragedy. This includes those many who have been killed, wounded and who have been made homeless, or who have been made to flee, over the past two weeks.

“This is another sad chapter of a long history, marked by multiple brutal tragedies. As such, it is a complex matter which supersedes politics, power and history.

“This local inter-faith collaborative response is based on a simple premise. This crisis, which has global implications, calls for those who subscribe to the common humanity of everyone who shares the planet to gather – at least in spirit, if not physically – in support of that premise.

“Those gathering are asked to draw on the wisdom of the best legacies of our human family in affirming and supporting peace and justice for all involved, with the hope of a better future with reconciled differences. The clear goal being to end the cycle of violence that is impacting so many – especially children – and the healing of wounds and relationships amongst peoples and nations.

“As such, invited our whole island community to ‘Pause for Peace’ at 1.00pm on Friday for a moment of reflection.

“In addition, we are inviting faith communities and families over this coming weekend to reflect on fostering peace in these fraught circumstances, in the Holy Land and its rippling effect around the globe.

“In addition, we wish to announce that there will be opportunities during the lunchtime of various days next week for gatherings promoting peace. Gatherings include:

“Monday – 23/10/23 – Noon – 12.30 pm ‘Silent Meditation’ – & from 12.30 – 1.30 pm ‘Prayers’ – The Baha’is Centre – 8 Brunswick St., Hamilton.

“Tuesday – 24/10/23 – 12.30 – 1.30 pm– ‘Reflections on Peace’ – The Bermuda Islamic Cultural Centre – 84 Harrington Sound Rd – Smith’s Parish

“Wednesday- 25/10/23 1.00 pm – 2.00 pm – ‘Reflections on Peace’ at The Anglican Cathedral on Church Street.”
