Brass, woodwind and percussion musicians are invited to Warwick Camp this weekend to take part in an open day with the Royal Bermuda Regiment Band and Corps of Drums.

A spokesperson said, “Open to people aged 13 to 50 of all skill levels, the event will provide the chance to play, march and learn some of the band’s history.”

Lieutenant Sheldon Fox, Band Officer, said: “The open day will be an opportunity for musicians to see what the Regiment Band has to offer and decide if they’re willing to join our numbers.

“It’s a fun organisation. We’re a pretty tight-knit group; we’re just looking to make music with as many people as possible.”

The spokesperson said, “It is hoped the ensemble can welcome at least ten more players to it ranks.

“The RBR Band and Corps of Drums provides musical support to the Regiment’s marching troops and is showcased at ceremonial functions such as the Peppercorn Ceremony and King’s Birthday Parade.

“Additionally, members are involved in private engagements and the organisation is increasing its partnership working with schools across the island.

“Opportunities for individuals include musical development and the chance to achieve qualifications while earning money to rehearse and perform.

“Anyone who would like to attend the open day – on Saturday, October 14, from 9am to 4pm – is asked to bring their own instrument.”

Lt Fox said: “This event is to offer a taste of the band and an opportunity to talk to some of our musicians.
“It will generally be a good day of music-making and guests can see how we operate.”

The spokesperson said, “Anyone interested in attending is asked to complete this form:

“The RBR Band and Corps of Drums open day will be held from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, October 14.”
