BWS Provides Update On Tropical Storm Tammy

October 27, 2023

[Updated] “We continue to experience gales associated with Post-Tropical Tammy,” the BWS said today [Oct 27], adding that “we will unlikely change our current Gale Warning into any Tropical Storm Watch or Warning because “winds are forecast to begin decreasing tonight.”

The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] posted the image below and said, “We continue to experience gales associated with Post-Tropical Tammy. The National Hurricane Center [NHC] declared Tammy as Post-Tropical on the 25th with their 6am [local] advisory. This ended the advisories as Tammy was no longer a Tropical Cyclone.

“Post Tropical Tammy continued to be closely monitored and updates on it were regularly sent on the NHC’s Atlantic 7-day outlook. That outlook this morning has Post-Tropical Tammy as a 70% chance of redeveloping back into a tropical cyclone.

“Tammy’s been tricky to say the least, however, regardless of any tropical development, we are currently experiencing the strongest winds associated with Tammy. If/when NHC starts issuing advisories on Tammy we will also resume our Tropical Update Bulletins.

“However we will unlikely change our current Gale Warning into any Tropical Storm Watch or Warning as that would be potentially confusing to the public and because winds are forecast to begin decreasing tonight as Tammy, either as Post Tropical or Tropical, will be moving away from Bermuda.”

Update 12.28pm: As of their 12pm forecast, the BWS note that Tammy has redeveloped into a tropical storm.

Arrived on the AA Charlotte flight yesterday.

Yeee Haw! that was some landing with the cross wind. Saw one of the airport firefighters give the pilot a well deserved salute as we taxied back.

Had a quick word with the pilot, 2nd officer actually, said only in a simulator had he done a more challenging crosswind landing.

Great job pilot. That is what you get the $$ for.
