Airport Emergency Exercise Being Held Today
The LF Wade International Airport is holding a modular airport emergency exercise this morning [Nov 10] with select on-island agencies participating.
A spokesperson said, “The exercise is designed to test specific aspects of the airport’s emergency plans, with both governmental and non-governmental agencies on hand to participate. The event will be a simulation of an aircraft accident in the waters in Castle Harbour.
“The purpose is to demonstrate the ability of specialist rescue services, including the BFRS and the Bermuda Coast Guard, to quickly respond to an aircraft accident where the aircraft rests in the water.
“This exercise will also test interagency emergency coordination amongst agencies in accordance with International Civil Aviation Standards and the Skyport Airport Emergency Plan.
“The public is asked to stay clear of the area on Friday, November 10, from now until 11:30am as emergency response vessels will respond as if it were a real-life scenario.
“Skyport apologises for any inconvenience and would like to thank the public for their cooperation.”
Please note: Flights will continue as usual during this exercise.
