Taylor To March In Thanksgiving Day Parade
Saltus music teacher Kelley Taylor will join a marching band of 400 band directors in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday [Nov 23] in New York.
A spokesperson said, “Saltus is proud to announce that Kelley Taylor, a Secondary Instrumental Music Teacher at Saltus Grammar School, has been selected to join a marching band of 400 band directors from across the country in the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, 23rd November 2023. Following the success of their inaugural appearance at the 2022 Rose Parade, the Band Directors of America were invited to march at this year’s Macy’s Day parade in New York City.
“The Saluting America’s Band Director’s parade entry will again convey its theme, “America’s band directors: We teach music. We teach life.” to recognise the extraordinary dedication and accomplishments of band directors and music educators everywhere. Throughout their careers, the music educators in this band have collectively mentored and taught hundreds of thousands of students. These professionals not only teach and direct music, but they also teach about life itself.
Ms. Taylor will be playing clarinet alongside fellow band directors in one of the United States’ most celebrated holiday events.
Commenting on her excitement leading up to this week’s parade, she said, “I am so proud to represent music education with a group of the best band directors from throughout the United States. I have spent much of my music teaching career in international schools as well as 18 years teaching in Arkansas and Texas. It was such a wonderful opportunity to march with fellow band educators in last year’s Rose Parade. I am thrilled to be representing Bermuda’s Saltus Grammar School in NYC in this year’s Macy’s Day parade.”
Julie Rousseau, Head of Saltus Grammar School, added, “This is a great opportunity to celebrate Ms. Taylor and her passion as a music educator. Showcasing a 400-strong group of band directors at an event the size of the Macy’s Day parade is no small feat. We are looking forward to sharing highlights of this event with our community here in Bermuda via social media. We also hope to bring the event into the classroom via livestream on Thursday and make it accessible to our students.”
The Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Day Parade will be broadcast live at 9:30 am on Thursday, 23rd November in Bermuda.
