Christmas & NY Garbage Collection Advisory

The Ministry of Public Works advised the public of the upcoming waste and recycling collection day changes over the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.

Christmas and Boxing Day

A Government spokesperson said, “Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a Monday and Tuesday this year respectively. As a result, Monday’s [25th] waste will be collected on Wednesday [27th], Tuesday’s [26th] on Thursday [28th] and Wednesday’s [27th] on Friday [29th].

“Waste collections due on Thursday [28th] and Friday [29th] will both be collected on Saturday [30th]. Recycling collections will remain unchanged, with the west end being collected on Thursday [28th] and the east end on Friday [29th].

New Year’s Day 2024

“New Year’s Day will also fall on a Monday. As a result, waste collections due on Monday, 1st January will roll over to Tuesday [2nd], with this schedule continuing through the week, and ending with Friday’s [5th] waste being collected on Saturday [6th]. Please note that this is not a recycling collection week.

“The Tynes Bay Public Dropoff will be open throughout the holiday season except for Christmas Day. Opening hours on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are from 9 a.m. until noon only.”
