Southampton Council Spreads Holiday Cheer
Members of the Southampton Parish Council extended holiday cheer to ferry passengers traveling into Hamilton from the Rockaway Ferry Stop in Southampton on Monday, December 11.
A spokesperson said, “When the passengers arrived at the stop, they were offered juice, water, pastries, granola bars, and other snacks hopefully making the peaceful, scenic ride into Town even more enjoyable.”
Council Member Sabrina Kirby said: “Our Council tries to hold events and activities at least four times per year to let Southampton’s Residents know we are excited to serve them. We have met passengers here a few times in the past, and it is always well-received. We most recently surprised the passengers on 30th June, and they were so gracious we planned to repeat the gift before the end of the year.”
The spokesperson said, “Council Members braved the early morning damp and cold to arrive before 7am to be ready to serve passengers who were catching the 7:20am ferry; and Members stayed to serve the 7:55 ferry passengers as well. In all, over 50 people were served and were grateful for Council’s small gesture of hospitality.
“In addition to meeting and greeting ferry passengers on Monday, Council Members are gearing up for their second largest annual community initiative later this week. On Saturday 16th December, Council Members will be at Dr. Cann Park, the largest seniors residential complex in Bermuda, to provide a $50 grocery voucher to every senior who resides there.”
Council Member Lisa Spurling said: “Our Annual Christmas giveaway is the most heart-warming and rewarding community outreach that we do. After they open the door and we say why we have come to see them, the sincere gratitude and emotional appreciation makes us and them feel a strong sense of Community…it really does make us happy to be able to donate and help our Elders celebrate the Season.”
The spokesperson said, “Members’ visits create warm moments between Members and Seniors that lasts, and Members really look forward to giving. As it is such a joyous feeling, the Southampton Parish Council Members encourage anyone who has family or friends who live at Dr. Cann Park, or any other Senior/Care Home to visit them over the Holiday Season. As we know, recollecting lost loved ones, friends, and family can be emotionally challenging for anyone, but it can be especially difficult to bear for our Elders.
“We hope and pray that everyone feels loved, valued, and appreciated this year. Season’s Greetings!”
