‘Strong Smell Of Cannabis’, Driver Speeds Off
Police observed a car “double parked outside an establishment on Front Street” and “officers detected the strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle” and “the subject was asked to step out of the vehicle, but refused and sped off, forcing the officers to take evasive action to avoid being struck.”
A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th 2023, police officers on mobile patrol in the City of Hamilton, observed an unoccupied motorcar with the engine left running, double parked outside an establishment on Front Street.
“As officers approached, a male ran to the vehicle and got into the driver’s seat. Upon speaking to the man, officers detected the strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle.
“The subject was asked to step out of the vehicle, but refused and sped off, forcing the officers to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
“The driver travelled east along Front Street before turning North on to Parliament Street, making good his escape.
“Subsequent checks revealed he did not possess a valid driver’s license and has outstanding warrants.
“An arrest in relation to this matter is imminent.”
