Nicholas Christopher To Star In Jelly’s Last Jam
Bermudian actor Nicholas Christopher will star as Jelly Roll Morton in New York City Centre Encores! upcoming production of Jelly’s Last Jam at the Manhattan venue.
The seldom-produced bio-musical, which runs next year from February 21 to March 3, celebrates the life and music of Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe, known professionally as Jelly Roll Morton, an American ragtime and jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer.
Jelly’s Last Jam, written by George C Wolfe, is set to Morton’s iconic music, with lyrics by Susan Birkenhead. Robert O’Hara will direct the production.
Mr Christopher has recently been starring in the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as rival barber Adolfo Pirelli.
He also stepped into the title role after superstar singer Josh Groban tested positive for Covid-19.
