Video: Sea Turtle ‘Scotti’ Released Into Wild
After being discovered “disoriented and cold-stunned” in Canada last November, a green sea turtle named ‘Scotti’ has been successfully rehabilitated in Bermuda and released back into the wild.
The Bermuda Zoological Society posted the video below on Instagram and said, “A disoriented and cold-stunned green sea turtle found in Canada last November was released back into the waters of Bermuda.
“After being transported to Bermuda, Scotti the turtle spent more than two months in rehab at BAMZ being treated for symptoms of cold exposure under the careful supervision of a team of specialists, including Dr. Gaëlle Roth, co-director for BZS’s Bermuda Turtle Project and a volunteer veterinarian at BAMZ.
“Now fitted with a microchip and described by Roth as a “strong, young turtle,” the hope is that Scotti will use the green sea turtles’ famous instinctual “GPS” to return home. In many areas of the world, female green sea turtle hatchlings will often travel hundreds [if not thousands] of kilometres to return to the beach where they hatched in order to reproduce – a phenomenon known as “natal homing.”
“Dr. Roth asks that if anyone sees a turtle in distress or acting abnormally to please call 293-2727 ext 999. Scotti is easily recognisable by a missing flipper tip and flipper scars, as well as a microchip.’
