Scott Barnes Targets Third Straight Series Title
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Karting driver Scott Barnes has set his sights on a third straight title in the Skusa Winter Series at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex in Florida.
Barnes, who competes in the Shifter Masters class, heads into the first two rounds of the series this weekend, with four races over Saturday and Sunday, and said he is confident of making a flying start.
The series concludes with rounds three and four from February 9 to 11 at the same venue.
“I’m going for the three-peat!” Barnes told Bernews. “Numbers aren’t as high as I’d like in my class; hopefully, a few more drivers will sign up this week. Either way, I’ll be ready.
“I haven’t raced much since the Skusa SuperNats [in Las Vegas in November], but I’m pretty familiar with the track, so I shouldn’t need much seat time.”
The 39-year-old, who will be allowed to drop his worst round of the series, will have a practice round on Friday and a qualifier, heat, and finals race on Saturday and Sunday.
He will once again be driving for Ohio-based Magik Kart USA.
“Hopefully, I can put up some good results, get some points on the board, and come back next month to seal the title,” he added.
Barnes, who is sponsored by Simpson Motorsport, is looking for more sponsors to help him cover the costs of competing overseas this year.
