Tyler Butterfield has confirmed he will compete in his first Boston Marathon on April 15.
Butterfield, a two-time Olympian, holds the national marathon record after finishing in 2hr 21min 47sec at the Osaka-Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon in Otsu, Japan, in 2019.
The triathlete said he is excited to re-tread the steps of his mother, Debbie Butterfield, who came fourth in the Boston Marathon in 1985.
“Super excited about [the] opportunity to run [the] Boston Marathon 2024,” Butterfield wrote on Instagram today.
“Heard the stories, seen the T-shirts, stared at my mom’s trophy [from] 1985.
“Now I get a chance to feel Heartbreak Hill, the crowds, [and] the atmosphere that is Boston.
“Now to get the work in and stay healthy.”
