A new male champion will be crowned this year in the Swan’s Running Club Legend Series.

The annual series gets underway on Sunday with the Ed Sherlock 8K Run in Southampton, followed by the Ray Swan Flat 8K in Pembroke on March 24, the Ludwig Cann 10K in Warwick on April 7, and the Bermuda Healthcare “Sir” Stanley Burgess 5K in Devonshire on May 5.

Dage Minors, who won the overall male title last year, will not defend his crown as he is spending the next few months training at the Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales under his new coach, James Thie, a two-time Front Street Mile elite men’s race winner.

Minors, the island’s top middle-distance runner, will also compete in the United Kingdom before returning to Bermuda in April.

In the absence of Minors, Sean Trott, who claimed the overall male category in 2019 and 2022, will be among the favourites for the vacant title.

Meanwhile, Gayle Lindsay has confirmed to Bernews that she will aim for her sixth straight title in the overall women’s category.

Lindsay enters the competition in fine form after winning the PwC Bermuda Half Marathon and finishing second in the Butterfield Open Mile and BF&M Bermuda 10K Run to claim top honours in the Chubb Bermuda Triangle Half Challenge last month.

The Legend Series aims to celebrate Bermuda’s race legends. Participants must compete in a minimum of three of the four races.

The male and female runner accumulating the most points is the overall winner. There are also age group winners in the Open [20-39], Masters [40+], Seniors [50+], Veterans [60+] and Legends [70+] categories.

The Swan’s Running Club has partnered with Keep Bermuda Beautiful [KBB] this year to develop sustainability goals to help minimise the environmental impact of the club’s events.
