BSSF Middle School Cross Country Results
The 2024 Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross Country Championships was held at the Arboretum.
A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy’s Cechini twins stole the show at the 2024 Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross Country Championships held at the Arboretum. Gabriella Cechini won the over 13 girls race in impressive fashion, beating her nearest rival by over a minute and a half. Cecheni finished the race in 12:29. She was followed by Warwick Academy’s Antoinette Barry in 14:34 and Mount Saint Agnes Academy’s Ava Moorghen in 14:45. Saltus Grammar School won the team event despite not having a runner finish in the top three. They finished on 49 points with Warwick Academy finishing on second with 54 and Bermuda High School earning bronze with 72 points
“Twin brother Joey Cechini won the over 13 boys race by a comfortable 30 seconds. His nearest competitor was Dylan Eiselt from Saltus Grammar School who finished with a time of 12:07. Liam Johnson rounded out the podium finishers after beating Warwick Academy teammate Zydon Lighbtourne Furbert in a sprint finish with a time of 12:33. Saltus Grammar School won the team event with four runners finishing in the top ten. The finished with 47 points. Warwick Academy claimed second spot with 51 points while Mount Saint Agnes Academy finished third with 95 points
“Saltus Grammar School’s Sukanya Jobson won the first race of the day in fine fashion. She crossed the line in the under 13 girls race in 13:30, 50 seconds ahead of Warwick Academy’s Sophia Leclerc in 14:20. Rianna Robinson from The Whitney Institute Middle School finished third in 14:31. Bermuda High school finished on top in the team event with 48 points, edging Saltus Grammar School by two points. Warwick Academy was third with 67 points.
“Warwick Academy’s Jens Drea ran the day’s fastest race as dominated the under 13 boys race to win in a time of 11:35. Saltus Grammar School pair Rory Shepherd and Conor O’Sullivan rounded out the medal winners with times of 11:51 and 12:00. Warwick had five runners finish in the top 11 finishers to score the day’s best team total of 34 points. Saltus would finish second with 41 points with Somersfield Academy scoring 83 points to finish third.”
