Opposition Leader On Consultant Costs
“The PLP Government spent an eye-watering $41 million,” Opposition Leader Jarion Richardson said, asking “what are these consultants doing to justify $41 million dollars of our money?”
A spokesperson said, “The budget debate has revealed that last year the PLP Government splashed out over $40 million of taxpayers’ money on consultants. It has more than doubled what the OBA budgeted for consultants when in office.”
Opposition Leader Jarion Richardson said, “The PLP Government spent an eye-watering $41 million. This compares to only $16.8 million budgeted for consultants in 2016/17 under the OBA’s tenure.”
“We must reduce the cost of doing business in Bermuda – and cut unnecessary red tape. This is what the OBA means when we promise responsible spending.
“Why does the PLP decide to splash out almost $41 million of the peoples’ money when we have elected MPs to do the job?
“How did the consultancy budget escalate from almost $17 million under the OBA to almost $41 million last year? That’s more than double – in fact, it’s more than a 140% increase by the PLP.
“The PLP should come clean regarding the consultants they hired. What are these consultants doing to justify $41 million dollars of our money? Are we getting real value for that staggering amount?”

Why have people in Government who are unable to do their jobs and thus consultants, usually friends & family, need to come in at taxpayer expense?
A complete waste of taxi payers’ money.Can we get a detailed listing of who these consultants were and what was achieved?
Thats what you have to do when you dont know what you are doing . When you dont have any ideas or have the ability to figure it out ..you have to go out and try to find someone who does…the problem is they didnt do a good job at selecting the consultants did they ..you see any improvement anywhere ? got a question how do we spend millions on a Gambling industry that doesnt exist ….thats smart imagine St.Regis and the promises this government made …i remember the photo shoot opening ceremony Burt and his disciples …heard all of the machines and tables have been shipped out …great job plp St. Georges and even bigger Bermuda suffers again

That is a matter of opinion. The Attorney-General has hired her husband as a consultant for some $240,000 per year. That is a good result for them.

Yes, we do have a monopoly government, but change to what? The OBA are no match for the PLP.
I guess the point i am making here , without the possibility of a new party emerging is we need to at the very least get a bit more balance in the house even it it means many of us who did not vote in the last election actually vote for the OBA just for that reason > it certainly cannot get any worse that it is now .

Don’t forget the daily and weekly contracts government puts out. Private Truckers daily are used. Work that can be done by Government employees is tendered out at much higher prices. This must put us , with the Consultants’ costs over 100 Mil. for the year. Just a guess by what I see going on. Just one Example: Watford Bridge took the most part of 2023 to fix the deck. (Tendered out) Now it is being torn up again! Now Government Employees are working at it! To me, this is another huge debacle, wasting our money and travel time and patience!
