Lindo’s To Lindo’s Road Race Marks Its 25th Year
The Lindo’s to Lindo’s Road Race, the annual diabetes fundraiser, will mark its 25th anniversary with its event on Sunday, March 3rd.
A spokesperson said, “The competitive 10k run, 4-mile competitive walk and 4-mile fun run/walk will see participants start their route at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick at 8:30am before making their way to Lindo’s Market Devonshire in support of the Bermuda Diabetes Association [BDA].
“Diabetes is a huge problem in Bermuda, with the BDA estimating that its incidence rate stands at 15 percent of the population. Yet many more are at risk of prediabetes – BDA has suggested that as many as eight out of ten adults may be unaware of their condition and be at risk of developing type two diabetes within five years.
“Funds raised by the event will go towards the Bermuda Diabetes Association’s work in educating the community about the disease, treatment and prevention as well as to its Client Assistance Programme [CAP]. The CAP helps to fund diabetes education and medications for those who might not otherwise be able to afford it. It also supports medical nutritional therapy to help manage Type Two Diabetes.
“The first 800 participants to collect their number on Saturday, March 2nd will receive a goodie bag and an event tee shirt kindly sponsored by Argus. Number pick-up will take place between 9:30am and 12:00pm at the Bermuda Diabetes Centre, 22 Princess Street in Hamilton.
“Prizes will also be given for the overall fastest three men and women in the competitive run along with the fastest two from each of the following age-groups:
- Junior [12 - 20]
- Open [20 - 29]
- Masters [40 - 49]
- Senior Master [50 – 59]
- Veteran [60 – 69]
- Experienced Veteran [70+]
“The fastest two competitive walkers [male and female] will also receive prizes along with the Top School Competitor [school with the greatest number of participants – whether walking or running].
“All participants who have completed the registration process will automatically be included in a drawing for the chance to win exciting prizes.”
Zach Moniz, Lindo’s Family Foods Manager, said, “We are incredibly proud to be hosting the 25th Lindo’s to Lindo’s event to support the Bermuda Diabetes Association in its vital mission to safeguard Bermudians’ health. This is a wonderful, family friendly event and we are touched that so many people have made it an annual event.
