Port Royal Hosts Forum On Agronomic Practices
Port Royal Golf Course hosted an open forum to discuss agronomic practices.
A spokesperson said, “In a transparent outreach initiative aimed at informing golfing patrons of Port Royal Golf Course about agronomic practices and field their questions Golf Course Superintendent hosted an on-course walk about.”
Golf Course Superintendent Jayson Jackson said, “On Friday February 23, 2024, I hosted members of the public and the Port Royal Golf Course membership on an educational walking tour of the back nine holes at Port Royal Golf Course. We explored the importance of marrying agronomic practices with environmental conditions during the non-growing season for warm season grasses.”
The spokesperson said, “This outreach is significant because few people understand or appreciate the amount of stress a golf course is put under to have the golf at the quality required to host a PGA Tour event. We at Port Royal have met the standard for five consecutive years whilst operating within the stringent environmental guidelines required in Bermuda.
“Both the public and golf members often have questions and rather than allowing misinformation to cause misunderstandings, our Golf Course Superintendent is proactive by inviting golf patrons to put their comments directly to him.”
Superintendent Jackson said, “We explored and conversed about our 2023/2024 winterization projects which included removal of invasive shrubs and trees such as Brazilian Pepper on #15/#17 bank and #14 fairway and the Short Game Practice Facility.
“Additionally, we discussed golf course etiquette, such as the proper method to repairing your ball marks without damaging the turfgrass canopy. This was a very intriguing experience as we will continue to educate the public and serve our local community”
The spokesperson said, “Port Royal Golf Course proudly boasts that it is a public daily fee golf featured on the PGA Tour and we appreciate all people who call Port Royal home. That’s the beauty of public golf; we service a diverse community of golfers from all walks of life.”
