42nd Sports Awards Set For Next Month
Bermuda’s top male and female athletes will be vying for honours at the 42nd Annual Sports Awards at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club on Saturday, March 9.
The event will celebrate and recognise the achievements of Bermudian athletes during the calendar year from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
As well as the awards for male and female athletes of the year, other categories include the junior male and female awards, appreciation awards, achievement awards, the team of the year award, and special distinction awards.
Jah-Nhai Perinchief and Dame Flora Duffy were the male and female athlete of the year at last year’s awards.
Duffy won a fourth triathlon world championship and retained her Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham.
Meanwhile, Perinchief won the bronze medal in the triple jump at the Commonwealths to become the first Bermudian athlete to medal at the Games since triple jumper Brian Wellman won bronze in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, in 1994.
“The Department of Sport and Recreation invites you to join us in celebrating the achievements of our athletes, administrators, and NSGB [National Sporting Governing Bodies] at the 42nd Sports Awards,” the Department of Sport and Recreation wrote on Instagram.
