The Bermuda Under-20 national team made a perfect start to their Concacaf Under-20 Championship qualifying campaign after defeating Grenada 2-1 at the SKNFA Technical Centre in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, today [February 24].

Coach Cecoy Robinson’s side opened the scoring in the 37th minute through winger Sachiel Ming but Grenada levelled when Vijay Valcin netted just before the interval.

On the hour mark, Bermuda were indebted to goalkeeper Nathaniel Swan, who made a superb save to deny Grenada’s Clifton Baptise, rushing out to smother the ball before the striker, who was clean through on goal, could pull the trigger.

Bermuda restored their advantage in the 71st minute when a free kick by midfielder Aunde Todd was parried by the Grenada goalkeeper into the path of Riley Robinson, who poked home from close range.

Bermuda have been pitted in group F with Grenada, Martinique and Jamaica and must finish top to advance to the championships.

They face Martinque on Monday and Jamaica on Wednesday.
